My daughters baby (not a baby) is not coming out of her nest. We just lost her mate who suddenly died with NO warning but a 24 hour illness.
Her symptoms something is off is she is nesting... and a yellow whitish good coming out of her bottom. No desire to co mingle with the other ducks today. She was fine yesterday. They seem fine.

She has not laid one egg since her mate died (who was a female) she also got a horrible eye infection which we think blinded her in one eye.

To help her we got her two new friends and she was finally loving it and feeling like her old self except for not laying.

I cannot find a duck vet anywhere here in the area!!

I was thinking maybe she was getting ready to start laying again?? Or if this is another illness what does it sound like and how the hell do I treat it without a vet!

Please Ill take any advice.

i would take her to an emergency vet they have to take all animals to be considered an emergency vet so look that up and call if you think she wont make it in the next 24 hours.

I'm new to ducks so I don't know but hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along. She may have an idea @Amiga @seminolewind @casportpony (Hope it's okay I just tagged you all). Good luck. I hope she is okay.

She may have an egg laying problem. She may be or have been eggbound. Touch and smell the goo. Is it egg yolk? Is it stinky? My first guess is she is egg bound and it broke.

I would gently place her in a tub of lukewarm water and let her float. Try to see if there is any egg shell coming out. It may not have a shell - but she needs to finish passing it.

X2! Sounds like she may have had an egg break inside her, which is quite serious. It can lead to egg yolk peritonitis, which can be fatal if not treated in time.

She passed away. I had an appointment at 4 at a vet almost an hour away. I went out to check her at 1 and she was up and swimming in her pool so I became a bit less concerned. Kept the appointment anyhow and on the way to the vet she passed. They did a stool sample and it was not any known form of parasite that they would be able to check for. No other tests could be done.
I took my remaining two ducks to a new home as something here is killing my ducks and vet doesnt think it is contagious but more of a toxin. After the first duck died we had a 3 week span before this one passed. my daughter was devistated as she raised this duck from right out of the egg.

also, she had an egg but it was intact and had not busted. so egg bound or egg breaking was not the factor.
