Please help I think my ducks leg is broken it keeps hopping on one foot. When i got hold of it it didn't look like it had been bitten or punctured. HELP PLEASE I cant afford to take him to the vet or I would!!!

How old, what breed is the duck? Get her into a tub of lukewarm water deep enough to float in. Get a good look at how the leg is moving, and check the bottom of the foot.

Could be a splinter, injury, or bumblefoot infection.

If it's a break, it needs to be set and carefully splinted.

If it is a splinter, that needs to be removed. Bumblefoot can be treated with clear (not brown) iodine and soaks. There are detailed instructions - but before I go into that, please let us know if there are bumbles on the foot, or if you can feel a break.

You may have to gently feel the leg all the way to the top.

will you be on in about half an hour I am 14 and am not wanting to do this alone. My mom isn't home yet!!

I will keep my smart phone with me and check in while I have to go out for errands - so, yes, I will make an effort to be available. There are also some very helpful people here including @Miss Lydia and @casportpony and a number of others who may have some good ideas for the duck.

See if there is any Epsom salt in the house. It is a laxative taken internally, but externally, it can help with sprains and other injuries. It does not cost much.

Thank you so much!!!
Best thing to do till mom gets home is keep the duck as quiet as possible and warm[not hot] but sometimes with breaks shock can occur have you examined the leg at all? Do you see bone sticking out? swelling? once you and mom get the duck in nice warm water to float in don't leave it in case it tries to jump out and makes matters worse. But we need to know if it's able to use it's leg at all in the water. And if you see anything out of the ordinary on the bottom of the foot also run you fingers over the skin on the bottom to check for splinters

*If* it has a break, and the break is *not* in the hip or femur it should heal with proper splinting.

What I read was animal fractures need to be splinted in such a way that the joints above and below the break are stabilized.
