Hello, so recently someone dumped a Pekin at the creek in the commons behind our house. She is a female because I heard her quack several times. She has not been going broody and is laying eggs ALL OVER THE PLACE. Most of them are cracked and eaten by some animal I’m assuming. But there is one lying in a pile of mud that wasn’t so I took it home and I’ve been incubating it and flipping it. I’m not sure if it is dead or alive. No movement no veins but for sure lots of development. It’s floating to the top of the egg too. These are all signs that it’s dead, but just wondering if I should keep candling and flipping it for a few more days and keep a close on growth. WHAT SHOULD I DO???? Some people say that there are no veins and no movement in their eggs and they opened it and it was alive, so Id hate for that to be the case. PLEASE LMK WHAT YOU THINK. Thanks in advance! Attaching a pic when I candled it.

That never developed. It's infertile. She hasn't been bred by a drake so she can't lay fertile eggs. Can you catch her and take her to a rescue or give her to someone with other ducks? Ducks shouldn't live alone, and since she is domestic she will get eaten living out there by herself.

I can try to catch her although she IS with at least 10 other mallards. They are all females too. They do stay together like a flock. Should I still try to get her? I’m just concerned that she can’t fly if she needs to for safety.

Yeah, probably. She will be the first one eaten if something comes, and she won't be able to get away. I'm not really sure about how to go about catching her.
@Isaac 0 what would you do?

She seems to also be with another duck that looks like she mated with a mallard. So a mallard/ Pekin cross. She always stays by its side.

So the duck that she likes is a mallard X pekin cross? You can crack one of her eggs to tell if it's fertile. Look for a blastoderm.

So I just went to the creek and of course forgot my phone to get pics but. I got about 2 ft away from the Pekin. I was gaining their trust and giving them(the whole folk of ducks) peas I plan to go every morning and night. So hopefully then be able to get the Pekin sometime this week. They were all pretty relaxed around me infact 3-4 eventually fell asleep while I was there. And btw there are males in the folk they just don’t have their coloring yet. I know this because one was chasing and trying to nip at the tail of another. The Pekin is for sure friendlier than the mallards but still VERY cosious and protective.

Hopefully you can catch her. Just because ducks were chasing and nipping each other doesn't mean they're drakes. One of my duck hens even used to mount my other duck hen.

Oh! I didn’t know that!
