Hi we have 2 chickens the light Sussex is nearly 12 months old and has been laying for a few months now yesterday my wife went out and it has a large red swelling under its vent she said the vent looks ok what do people suggest this is how can we treat it it’s the weekend so no vet is open

Her butt must've gotten plucked. The feathers will grow back eventually. I had a hen that had a plucked bottom before.
