That is correct. Feedstores typically order their chicks from hatcheries. Most, if not all, hatcheries know what they are selling is not Ameraucanas or Araucanas but they continue to do so anyway. Deliberately misleading the public.
Most feedstores simply just do not know. I can tell you that I had a very nice talk with Kim and Monroe Farm & Feed and while she didn't know at the time what a true Ameraucana is and that they were actually selling EE's, she does now and as far as I know she has been very good about informing their customers of such.
A lot of feedstores simply don't care however. I won't name any names here but I can tell you that it doesn't take long for one to figure out who those might be. When you go to a feed store and you literally have to hold your breath because the stench is so bad you can't breath, and the chicks are stacked together so tight that they are constantly walking over one another, and the backs of the chicks and young birds have been completely picked bare on almost all of them - then you can pretty well imagine the folks there don't care one iota as to whether they are selling you a true Ameraucana or an EE. They got you $$ and that's all that matters. Just like the hatcheries.
Having said all that, I want to reiterate that there is nothing wrong with having EE's. As long as that's what you want and you know what they are. I actually have both.
God Bless,
