If it is the mother she will hear the baby cheep and go to it. If she does not go to the nest soon I would take it to the wildlife place. There are lots of critters who will make off with an unguarded baby bird... squirrels along with countless other types of birds. Also, if a mother bird does not think their babies will survive in the location they are in they may abandon the nest, I had cardinals do that last year.
Best of luck! You are doing a great thing!
Thanks for the encouragement. There are 1-2 pairs of doves flying around. One pair seem to either be doing some sort of chasing mating thing or doing fly-bys. Based on some of the flight paths, they have a higher probability of seeing the nest and baby. I tried to make it so that they can find it, but also hoping they'd feel it's in a safe-enough location. I don't know anything about dove habits and habitats, so am just trying to make the best guesses.
I think I'll wait around for another 20 minutes or so. Then, maybe come back in an hour or two to see. Or would that be too long of a wait? Fingers crossed!
