HELP! Baby chick is sick and i cannot figure out what it is.

When you say her head is tucked down, and she is walking backward, do you mean like she has wry neck or torticolis? Wry neck is a neurological condition from brain inflammation due to a head injury, a vitamin deficiency, or from certain diseases and conditions. The treatment is vitamins (B1 thiamine, E, and selenium.) Selenium is found in eggs and other foods. Could you post a picture of her head positioning? Below are some pictures of torticolis. Here are some links about wry neck, crook neck, or torticolis: http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/Crookneck/Crookneck.html

I'm glad she is improving! Since she is shaking her head so much it really could be a brain or neck problem. I know you said it feels like there's nothing in her throat, but just to be safe gently feel along the bottom of the esophagus starting at the base of the crop and work your way up to her beak. I was sure I felt nothing when my chick was acting that way, but down near the crop, a huge chuck of food appeared! I hope your chickie gets better!
