HELP!! Baby chick with stuff hanging out *PIC*

Sometimes if it's just a small amount of yolk, they can survive it. This looks a bit more than that and may include some intestines. This is caused by temperatures being too high either during incubation or in the hatcher. It can also be due to hot spots in the bator (common with still air units). I would run your thermometer a half a degree to a full degree cooler for your next hatch to hopefully keep this from happening again. I hope the rest are ok.

thanks. I have a Little Giant incubator and it sucks. I thought getting a fan for it would help, but it's only made the problem worse. I have had such a hard time keeping a steady temp and humidity level...

If I were you, I'd never keep a baby with that in the incubator on that wire. I'd wrap him up in moist paper towel, especially his bottom half, and put him somewhere extremely safe and soft. That way the sac wouldn't rupture and bleed.

well I've always read on here not to open the incubator, and not to remove chicks until they are dry... so I guess I never know what to do.

Anyhow, he made it throw the night. The "stuff" dried up, just a big dry bloody thing hanging from him. He is in the brooder with the other chicks.

*sigh*
it simply sucks that most people don't update their threads. this is the third i have come across on this topic that has been abandoned. very disappointing.
