I just brought home a new batch of chicks today and they seem very thirsty. They are drinking a ton and I think over drinking cause some of the water is coming back up- are they choking, spiting up, drinking too much? What are they doing?

Thanks

Perhaps, they are refining their technique for drinking. Little ones aren't the neatest creatures.

Are they being kept too hot?? This could make them excessively thirsty. Will often hold their mouths open or try to escape the lamp if too hot.

this is happening with my chicks as well, what should i do? this is their first day at home....

Do you have electrolytes in the water? Maybe they are low blood sugar or some other metabolic electrolyte is off and they aren't feeling hydrated? Just go to your feed store and get some sav a chick ( i think I am using Chick Lytes) and add it to the water....
ALso I moved mine indoors last night (they came yesterday AM) and that set up has the waterer alittle further away from them then their daytime setup and I noticed they ate more and drank less, just d/t the waterer being alittle less convenient...

electro lythes is a must for chicks in their 1st week, also move the water so they will get exercise walking to it, they need them walk to develop muscles, remeber chickens grow up very quickly!!
