Hello, I am hatching ducks with a broody hen... I already have 2 hatched and 3 more are close. I went out there this morning and 1 of the 3 had a hole in the egg, wonderful I thought we are close.. came back in and realized that I forgot to close her pen, went back out there and Momma duck had sat on the nest and crushed the baby open. My question is it dont look like all the yolk was absorbed and there is a round thingy on his tummy... I have him wrapped in a warm towel under a heat light.. What do I do???? Will he make it???

Quote:it depends on how much yolk sac is still out, and how much blood he might have lost when she crushed the egg... if you have it, a dry iodine, blu-kote, or betadine can be put on the naval area to help prevent any infection. otherwise, keep him warm and dry. if he makes it 24 hours, and the yolk is absorbed, I would put him back with momma.

the "round thingy" on his tummy is where the yolk sac goes in. it's his belly button. 8)
