Help Barred Rock Not Well

I have a barred rock that is acting funny. She is puffy and her left wing is drooping. Her sister had the same symptoms and eventually we had to cull her as she seemed to be in pain. Her left leg started going and she got worse each day. She was not able to walk near the end but would some how get to the food and water. No signs of anything else just seems like left side becomes paralyzed.

Could be two things...worms or Mareks disease or something that acts like it. How old is your girl...

She is about 16 weeks. Went out this morning and she seemed totally fine. I am thinking maybe i am paranoid cause of the other one going but we think she had a thyroid problem cause she was atleast double in size. I also think she might have been acting funny cause it was dark and maybe i startled her.

How often should chickens be wormed? My husband thinks it is strange deworming as they never did when he grew up on the farm!

It depends on climate, wild bird population, your soil.....many factors. Normally twice a year unless you see a problem sooner.
