I posted a thread a few days ago after getting a fecal done on the 2 of my 11 chickens who had consistently had some loose poop (the rest have been fine). It looked like this:
Parasitology
Specimen Test Name Parasite Parasite Amount
Jackie - Avian - Galliform / poultry - Chicken - Female - 2.5 Years Feces - 1 Parasite Unknown ID (Fecal Floatation Sugar) - 4/3/2019 10:18 AM Capillaria sp Moderate parasite load
Lola - Avian - Galliform / poultry - Chicken - Female - 2.5 Years Feces - 2 Parasite Unknown ID (Fecal Floatation Sugar) - 4/3/2019 10:18 AM Ascaridoidea Heavy parasite load Capillaria sp Light parasite load

I got advice to give Safeguard at .25 ml/pound 1x/day for 5 days. Yesterday, as I weighed each individual chicken, I noticed our new rooster had a slightly bubbly eye. He did not show any signs of illness while in quarantine, other than a slight "wheeze" after he crows sometimes.

I decided to go ahead and use Tylan 50 orally at the same dose (also found here on BYC) but 2x/day.
I gave both to all last night, and Tylan to all this morning.

My husband observed a chicken "vomit" or let some liquid come out of her mouth (this was Brownie, and about an hour after her Tylan dose this a.m). I did not observe this, and said chicken is acting fine.

Later I found my super-beloved "Baby" panting in a dark corner of the coop. Literally standing with her mouth open. She was not one of the hens with loose poop, and has been in excellent health as of late, though she had a scare with a soft egg breaking inside her several weeks ago, and had a vet visit and some doses of Baytril then. She's a good layer now, and laid yesterday.

I had already asked an experienced member about switching to Ivermectin and Tylan 200 or soluble powder. I have a serious back injury, and touching a syringe to the side of 11 chickens' beaks is time-consuming and painful for me, not to mention a LOT of liquid for them (my 6.8 pound rooster and hen get 3.4 mls when getting both Tylan and Safeguard). And now this! Tagging @Eggcessive @casportpony @DobieLover @coach723 @Texas Kiki

Did I hurt Baby by giving a dewormer and antibiotic concurrently? Did I get some in her trachea, even though I don't insert the syringe? I can get the vet out tomorrow. I've brought her in - her poop looks perfect, but she only ate a little bit of the scrambled egg I made for her, and drank a tiny bit of water, then went back to her open beak state. It looks like this:

I would check Brownie’s crop to feel if it is empty, full, firm, or puffy like a balloon. Sometimes we can accidentalyy squeeze the crop if we pick up a chicken, and they can spit up crop contents. If they have a slow crop or a sour crop they can also spit up. It is good to check the crop first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking, to see if it is empty. If not there may be a crop problem.

There should be no problem in giving Tylan the same time as SafeGuard. If using Tylan 200, remember that it is 4 times stronger than Tylan 50. Tylan 50 is more suited for chickens.

It was empty this morning when I gave her Tylan. Everyone's was. She's acting totally fine now. Maybe she drank an excess of water after the medication. It's bitter (head shaking chickens got it in my mouth) and obviously no one liked it.

Any thoughts on Baby and her open beak? Anything else I should be doing for her?

Since she has had some laying problems recently, she might be panting from that, or she might be panting from something respiratory. Eye bubbles can be a sign of mycoplasma, and it can be contagious. I have put Tylan in a treat of egg and plain yogurt, mixed with a few whole wheat bread crums. But only if I knew they would eat it all. And bread should not be used too much, since it can be bad for the crop.
