HELP Best way to kill a sick baby chick?

I've said this in another thread, you can also euthanize with helium. It's very peaceful and non traumatic to the bird and the person having to do it.

Don't know about helium, but as a nurse can attest to the fact that Carbon Monoxide is painless, just get sleepy and pass away. Hope this helps.

Works the same way, body accepts helium as a breathable gas without alerting the nervous system to the oxygen deficiency actually taking place.

It's actually carbon dioxide that is formed from baking soda and vinegar. I've used this method to euthanize a pet rat that had a lot of tumors and had stopped eating. Took maybe 15 seconds, very fast. There was a moment where the vinegar in the air tasted bad to her and she seemed irritated by that.

Sorry you've experiencing this. We had to euthanize a chick with Marek's yesterday. I read a lot about the most humane way to do it. It was difficult, but I asked a neighbor for help. I held the chick steady with a broom handle while the neighbor quickly cut its head off with a meat cleaver. You might want to ask someone for help. It would be much easier for me to cull a bird belonging to someone else compared to a sweet little pet I raised from its hatching.

one of my old rosters was realy sick, I shot him he was in a bag. Maybe you could ask someone else to do it

that is genius and had not found how I could dispatch an older Chicken so thank you so much

I absolutely agree. I tried this method and it was not something I would ever do to an animal again.

Unfortunately I have to try what will be my fourth method of dispatch of a young chick tonight. today i looked point blank at him and could easily see the pain it was enduring.

The two ways that I have used for young chicks that I did not have to watch the animal in death, felt very cowardly and put all the pain in the animals corner. I will not do that again.

Unfortunately that means that whether i use pruning shears or a board and sharp knife, I will have to watch its face and see the moment when it realizes..... but it's over quick and even if I make a mistake learning, it's better for that baby than a month of torture trying eat and drink with wry neck or messed up legs. It absolutely does realize what is about to happen in that nano second though, of that, I am very certain
