Help Big Cat Stalking My Chickens And Ducks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you trap it, and it is a hybrid, wildlife and fisheries may take it and kill it for you because of its affect on local wildlife if it is a suspected pet turned loose. or you may contact an exotic refuge near you, they may come out, bait it and haul it off for you? If it is a hybrid, and a pet turned loose, it is better dead than starving or wounded.

I'd opt for trapping since you really don't know what it is.

Now that I think of it, my advice seems kind of odd to me. Were it a dog, coyote, wolf, or any hybrid in between I'd shoot it. But since it is a feline of some sort I'd be more restrained in my response.

Aw heck, I'd still try to trap it.

I second that. Trap first so as not to risk your flock.
As for what to do with what you trap... It depends on what you trap.
Cross that bridge when you get to it.
just my 2¢

when dna analysis is performed there are no hybrids only claims ;1. get rid of the food source , 2. trap and dispatch , 3. trap and relocate 50-75 miles these are the main choices

DO NOT MISS NEXT TIME. Any cat that big is not only a danger to your birds and animals, but any small children also. A neighbor stopped by yesterday and asked if I had lost any goats to the mountian lion in the area. I haven't and didn't know one was close by. Could be because of my dog that I haven't seen it. They told me the kids saw it at the mine entrance when they got off the school bus, only about 2 hundred yards from my property line. Relocating is illeagal in most areas and is usually a slow death for the animal. WHY GIVE SOMEONE ELSE YOUR PROBLEM? Take care of it yourself.

I live in Northern California and my most problematic predator is the bobcat. Most of our bobcats don't have spots, but they are usually lighter in color than what you are describing. If it has a short or half tail and legs longer than a domestic cat, I would say it is a bobcat. Bobcat's color will vary according to its surroundings so they blend in. I figure for every bobcat you trap or shoot there will be another to take its place. I just keep my chicken yard bobcat proof with tall fencing and hotwire. My chickens are always closed in their house at night. On the other hand it could be a large domestic cat if it has a long tail and shorter legs. Look up pictures of Bengal and Savanna cats, which are both domestic cats bred from the wild Asian leopard cat and the African serval cat as pets. I have Bengal cats and they could pass as little leopards. I would try trapping or taking pictures of this cat because it might be someones pet. Here is a picture of my male Bengal cat for body type reference.

I think its probably a bobcat. I had one come around my chicken coop and it got quite a lot of them until i put a top on the coop. As it gotten any of your chickens? The bobcat that got my chickens new it could come by and always get a chicken but once the top was on it stopped coming around.
