Hi! New to BYC!

Hiya, Ronda, and welcome to BYC! :frow

We have a Learning Center where you can find a myriad of articles written by our members about how to care for chicks and chickens.

Sounds like you bought a prebuilt coop. Most of those hold only half the number they claim. It also depends on the weather there in Louisiana, but like here in Wisconsin, one wouldn't hold up here more than a year if it didn't blow away. We have a Coop forum here too. You might want to glance at it sometime as you might need something larger and sturdier in the future. :)

We're glad you're here!

Good Morning Debbie! :frow

Yes, it's a prebuilt coop, we are a little concerned about the size and decided to stick with just the 4 chicks for now until we get it put together. Our winters are usually pretty mild, occasionally we'll get a cold one (we have low 20s and a few teens forecast this next week 🥶) and wind is definitely a factor here. Especially with tropical storms/hurricanes in the summer.

We've already had bad experiences with hoop style greenhouses so we know we'll definitely have to do some reinforcing to keep it from blowing away. 😬😅

I'm looking forward to reading and learning!
