I’ve bathed the chickens in Epsom neem for it kills most the lice but I’ve found one chickens bleeding at the bum and a line of egg nests all the way up to her vent

Another who alarmed us looked egg bound so we bathed her to find lice ,I have never had lice in 7uears of chickens I am crapping myself

The egg bound chicken I am sure is going to die by morning she was always a weak runt with a scruffy look unlike my purebreds but kids loved her

I think she is weak from mites and possible eggboubd from energy lack she stil eats and drinks just sulks all day for 4 days

It’s spring , we got straw few week ago first time ever to try in the nesting boxes could that have introduced it ?

Got new chickens last week but they are lice free/some have a couple and are separated from the others with infestation by a fence so I don’t think it’s from them I think there getting it from the old flock and just noticing them now ,

The ones in the pen that are sick ,the old ones have nests in the feathers I thought only on 1 I’ll chicken but we just noticed this bleeding bum who seems healthy as hell Il get a pic

Bringing in new chickens can bring lice along. Mites have been know to hide inside the tubular straw, and brought in that way. Which do you have? Do you have pictures? Lice eggs look different from mite droppings. Neem oil can kill lice and mites with constant use, but I think that permethrin would be much more successful. Lice should be treated once every 10 days until gone, while mites should be treated every 5-7 days, since they reproduce more quickly. All bedding should be removed far away, coop and nests cleaned and treated as well as roosts.

If you suspect a stuck egg, try giving calcium with vitamin D3 orally daily. A hen with reproductive infection or internal laying can resemble an egg bound chicken. They may have a lowered tail, fuller lower belly, and a crop that doesn’t empty by morning.

She been bathed and is wet I’ve separated her and the poorly one from the others who don’t have this yet

I’ve used DE allover and removed sawdust and bedding

I admit I am going to read the posts now I wanted to post asap pics and info here

DE will not do a thing. Can you get a permethrin product today?

Can you wash her butt again and get it cleaned up and take a clearer picture?

In the morning I can yes isn’t permithrin the synthetic version of pyrethrum the natural with same effects ?
Was told online de kills the mites in the nest areas

She’s just dryed off to wil get a better pic in morning it’s like webs on the base of feathers
I thought mites but then I found and identified them they are orange long things loads of em they cling to the feathers and crawl fast I’d say small grain of rice size and orange says a louse

The straw is tubular yes from pet shop I got a bag brought by kids instead of alfalfa so I used it cause I had it I normaly use just sawdust

The new chickens seem clean or was and where they have 10 lice some non my main coop has web nests on feathers and like 300 a chicken on baths
They had the straw 2 week before I got these new ones

I have now their defiantly the louse lice orange long ones

I dusted with de one time in the coop I won’t any more will I be ok? I think I musta breathed some in at some point it didn’t have any warnings on the tin said sage for kids n pets ffs me n my daughter dusted it out last night
