help, boy or girl

The two slow-feathering black ones are total boys.

I lean toward that the other ones are also boys but not 100% sure.

Hmm....guessing this was a farm hatch and not a hatchery order. By any chance, did your friend take any chicks to keep out of the hatch?

Don't get too worried. Its hard to tell yet for sure and since they're mystery breeds it's even harder to say. Wait a little longer to see if there are any hens in the bunch. The dark one in the middle on the second picture looks like a hen to me.

Yes, the guy who gave me those eggs has a lifestyle section, not really a farm. He bought my old incubator and brought me one dozen eggs for food when he came to pick up the unit. I just used them to test my new incubator.

I tried to call him last week, but he is a Korean, really hard to make him understand me.

I could not keep roosters in my area, so would send them to my parents' farm asap.

Thanks for your reply!

I would keep them for longer if possible, but I hear some very strange crow (I guess) from last week, very early in the morning, about 4:30-5:00am, so I am afraid I have send roosters to the farm ASAP.

Thanks.

I would say the black are boys but the grey one could be a girl. Run your finger down the back of their legs and see if there is a bump that could be spurs.

there is always a chance i have some chicks get big combs early on but grew into them and be pullets. they do all appear cockerel though with how red the combs and wattles are(the only difference from my pullets they didnt have red combs or wattles) i though with my 2 d'uccle chicks that one was a boy but the comb never got any bigger and she has grown into it. post pics when they are between 6-12 weeks of age if they still have you guessing

I have been twice fooled by d'Uccle chicks...thought they were cockerels and then amazed to find out they were pullets.

oh i was so worried i miss incubated with the humidity would of had 9 but have only to. the humidity was to high

but yea the one that i was really hoping to be a pullet the porcelian looked like she was a cockerel at first her comb was so big at 2 weeks and the millie would always bow up to the 3 marans chicks hatched the same time so i thought she was a cockerel to. totally was freaking out and upset about that idea since i have 2 roosters that need pullets (oegb and a self blue d'uccle). anyways moral of story chicks can fool you sometimes until they get older and some even fool you until they crow or lay so never give up hope on having pullets

Interesting story! Too bad that you're not allowed to keep any roosters. With an incubator it's smart to have a planned destination (like parents' farm) for roosters....because ya never know who will hatch out!
