Help? Broody hen pooping on eggs?

This morning I went out and my broody hen had pooped all over her eggs. I took them and cleaned them with a cloth and put fresh straw in the nest...... was this the right thing to do????

Are you taking her off the nest at least 2 times a day so she can go to the bathroom. Take her outside and let her empty her bowls and run a bit. She'll know when it's time to run back and get on her eggs. Also from time to time make her a scrambled egg. They tend to get so thin when they are brooding on eggs. I think it's fine you wiped off the eggs, but I'm no expert at how to handle the eggs. I've always left that to my broody.

This happened to me once.

Awful, isn't it.

I cleaned the eggs in warm water. They did ok.

She never did it again.
