Please see attached photo - my poor goose is definitely trying to get out. His beak keeps popping out of the hole and he’s wobbling like crazy. Noticed the external pip (opposite side of air cell) yesterday afternoon. But now I’m seeing that his membrane around the pip is turning brown. Humidity is staying between 70-78%. Should I just let him be or is it time to help? Thanks in advance!

That brown membrane might be cutting off his air supply, so wether you leave him or help him out, you should definitely break that external membrane/crust so it can breath!

It depends on how comfortable you are. You can either pick at the crust, and peel it a little, not puncturing it, or help by cracking some of the shell around it, also further helping the baby hatch. If you do fear busting a blood vessel, you could simply just go ahead and help him out. Removing the crust/opening an air source is best if you don’t wish to help him out. I’ve been successful with all my chicks, but then the pip wasn’t as big, and it was more of a crusty gooo than this coat of brown looks like.

I just removed the crusty membrane and on the left side closest to his beak it’s gooer. So I stopped there. Barely any blood so fingers crossed! I put him back in and will keep an eye on him.
