I just noticed this bump on the side of my chickens face. Does anyone know what it could be? It kind of looks like a pimple and is hard. She also has a bit of a cross beak.

Can you look inside the beak for any yellowish material and note if it has a bad odor? I wonder if it is canker, a protozoan infection. If you see any of that, Aqua Zole or metronidazole 250 mg orally given daily for 5 days. Ronidazole is another pigeon medicine that can be used.

Did you look inside the cheek with a flashlight? It looks a little gray right where the upper and lower beak come together, much like some pictures I have seen. You can see that in some pictures in the link below. If it is not canker, then it might be a peck wound that has abscessed. You might try lancing it to see if it has pus inside, but only when you have ruled out canker. Also look for feed stuck inside the beak.

Update: I just looked in her mouth and there was debris in there. I got it all out. It’s still swollen. Is there anything I can give her to help with swelling?

What color was it? Was it food or a yellowish gray mass? Was there a rotten odor? Can you get a picture? Did it look like the ones in the link I posted? If you think it is canker, the medicines I posted above are the usual treatment. They are found online for fish and pigeons. Here is the one for Aqua Zole:

Here is the ronidazole:
