Does anyone know anything about car anti-theft systems? I have a 2000 Ford Focus that battery went dead and theft system locked the frickin car down and it will not start. We got a new battery and I am going to try disconnecting the battery for the afternoon to see if that resets it but did not know if anyone had any other suggestions. That was all the dealership could advise to other than have it towed in.

Dang, I can't remember how it works. But yes, let it sit and then pop in the new battery and let it sit some more. Wear earplugs.

You might as well check out the Ford website and see if there's any info. Also, call another dealership and talk to their shop people.

I think Ranchie is right. Disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few minutes and when you put the new one on it should reset it.

my fiance (a mechanic) says you need to put the code into the radio. in the back of your service manual or instructions for either the radio or car itself, there's the code. Put that into the radio and it'll all be ok. If it's got the beta lock system, that'll do it. if not, your radio will work but nothing else!

Nothing is working as car is totally locked and car locked starter. We tried the battery and I called 3 different dealerships. Looks like car has to be towed in!

The 2000 focus is equipped with the P.A.T.S.II(Passive Anti Theft System). When the system is activated, you will have a maximum of 3 attempts to start the car every 15min. The starter will turn the engine during these attempts. After 3 failed attempts the starter is also locked out and you will have to take it to the dealer to get the P.A.T.S. reset. If it is activated the little light in the dash will blink fast repeatedly or will burn constantly when the key is turned to the run/on position. There are ways around this but if you are not familiar with how it works, you're better off to leave it alone. A really nice dealer will turn this crap off. Some will tell you that they can't, but I had it turned off on my 05' Excursion. I've seen too many folks stranded because of a malfunctioning P.A.T.S. If a thief wants your car, he already knows how to get it and the P.A.T.S. won't stop him.
