I've been reading many posts from this site for years.
This morning I decided it was time to create an account and make a post.

I've had chickens for years and decided to try getting some ducks.
I have 2 Cayuga month old ducklings.
1 was quacking up a storm this morning and when I went to check found a
VERY swollen / infected /bleeding wing.

It was not this way yesterday. This all seemed to happen within 12 hours / overnight.

I'm including pictures, sorry they are not pretty pictures.
The first picture is the left wing and the second is the right wing.
The right one is very warm and 3 or 4 times bigger (swollen/engorged) then the left.
It seems to be filled with blood. Notice the blisters all over the wing of swelling.
I could find nothing on the site about this issue.
Can someone point me to a post or have a solution for treatment.
I do need a do it yourself treatment (sorry can't afford a vet bill).

Was the duck in with chickens? It looks like they started pecking at the blood quills. I would separate, allow it to bathe in clean water, and think of putting some blu-kote to prevent flies from getting to the wing.

Looks like something got hold of it's wing and maybe chewed on it? Do you keep your ducklings in with your chickens? Seems blood feathers are very appetizing to chickens or could a pred got hold through fencing? I'd first off put the duckling in a warm bath and wash the area real good, then using Epsom salt water bath the wing in that making sure the duck doesn't drink the water since ES acts like a laxative. you might get an abscess so you'll need to be very watchful looks as though it already could be. can you get Blu Kote or Veterycin spray? I'd advise keeping duckling by itself or just with duckling in a confined clean area keep fairly warm. You may have to do a round of antibiotics but main thing now is getting it clean up and keeping flies off so you don't get maggots added to this already infected wound. Also pick up some Poultry vitamins for additional support while healing. I really looks like something was chewing on it's wing. Sorry you had to join like this but we're glad to have ya.

Thanks Speceider (Clint) and Miss Lydia.
I'll go get some Blu-Kote right away. And give some electrolytes and do the ES bath.
It was shocking how it could happen overnight and agree the chickens are probably at fault.
The part I could not figure out was why the entire wing is so swollen.
Is any drainage needed?

Similar to checking on people that are sick you start to find all sorts of things on the web. Is there also issues of slipped wing as I'm noticing the healthy wing hanging lower. Guessing not and just as they get bigger they hang down instead of being hidden up on the back, just checking.

When blood feathers come in they have to build up their muscles in their wings to hold them up most likely this is what your seeing in the one hanging down, They will hang down then they raise them up and it keeps repeating till they get those muscles strong to hold the wings. Most likely trauma to the injured wing, but keep an eye on it after you have treated to make sure the swelling goes down in a couple days..

Thanks again for the great information and help.
The little ducky seems all set except I can't keep the bandage on. Little houdini keeps getting it off.
Hoping it is okay without it since it has the Wound-Kote on it.
