HELP!! chick hatched with burst yolk and intestines hanging out

I would leave him like that for a couple of hours and then check if there’s any progress. I have heard of chicks who also did ok even though they didn’t absorb the yolk fully - it just dried up and fell off eventually. Maybe do some research on here about that.

Put him in something smaller so he can’t move. Kind of mimic putting him back in an egg. You want to keep him still, so it’s best if he’s upright and can’t crawl out. I’ve use a small glass usually or a plastic cup, one of the ones you get at IKEA.

im using a seedling pot (its pretty small and he cant move)
what about his intestines coming out....is there any chance they will go back in. they were not this bad when he first hatched.

Hmm, wash your hands really good and gently try to work the intestines back in if you can. Do you have a pic of the intestines? It’s not just the umbilical cord?

i think its the intestines...i cant be sure though. i cant unwrap him now as i have used most of my kitchen towel! i dont have alot left (coronavirus shortage)

hi,

thank you all for your advice so far
the chick is still alive ive just wet some more towel and re wrapped him up.
i still cant find any information on here that compares to mine.
he is very much alive and is showing no weakness, his yolk sac got ripped when he hatched. i'm not sure if its the intestine or the umbilical that is coming through the area that the yolk sac split, i have push it back in but i don't know how i'm going to stop this coming out...maybe a steri strip, but if i do this then it wont be able to be absorbed.
if the chick is still alive tomorrow, i need some advice urgently. i have been searching the internet for last hour or 2 and haven't found anything.
i don't want to give up on him as he has so much fight, so killing him is not an option right now.

What happened with your chick? mine is going through this now. 28 hours old and has what looks like intestines hanging out. I've been using iodine on it. Think the sac burst bc mama and siblings were feasting on it when I found her. Now just this intestines looking small ball hanging out that's drying. I'm assuming mine is going to die. There is no way to put it back in. It's too dry. I can't find a lot of info on this and I haven't heard from anyone on my posts so I'm assuming this doesn't happen a lot. I'm just desperate bc my chickens are like children to me.

Hi, unfortunately my chick passed away by the morning.
I knew once the intestines had come out that I was going to lose her but I had hope because she was so active.
If they are fresh out try and push them back in and keep you chick tightly sucure so she can't step on them and drag them back out again.
Best of luck x

I feel the same as you. It was heart breaking being so helpless and I have never put anything to sleep before so couldn't bring myself to even try it. Though towards the end I felt really bad.
This was my 8th time hatching chicks and the first time this has happened.
Like you I searched for hours and struggled to find much information. Which is crazy because it must happen much more often than this.
Everyone that knows me knows I love my chickens! So it was very hard for me and my kids.
I hope that your little chick makes it. But please take it from me if he doesn't don't be hard on yourself. You Did your best. Xx
