Help! Chick Hatched with LEGS Straight Back!

We use a thin strip of vet wrap to hobble any chicks that need it and it works wonders because it only sticks to itself.

Of course be careful as that does increase the likely hood that the chick could fall and not get up or drown in the waterer. You could definitely hobble and put in the cup but make sure you're talking taking the chick out for exercise. Also I wouldn't suggest having the chick walk on the newspaper newspaper is often slippery and chicks on newspaper are at a heightened risk of splay legs. I would suggest a thin towel or something along those lines to walk on. Or short carpet

Also as far as boots go they look good. We also use the vet wrap for boots because it can he hard to get bandaid or tape boots off.

I just went through this but mine only had one leg backwards I tried a lot of things and had to put the chick down in the end I hope you have better luck and interested in what you try if it works so I know next time if it ever happens again

I will definitely keep everyone updated. Just moved chick and chickmate into their brooder. Hoping this is a good setup for them. Any advice is welcome. I’ve been taking her out of the shot glass and manually bending her legs and making her stand correctly. Kind of like PT for chicks. She is soo tiny.

Hmm so I really don’t know what I’m doing but she keeps leaning back in the cup and so she’s not standing on her feet. I’m thinking maybe putting Velcro on the bottom of the bandaid and sticking her onto it so she can bear weight on her legs...and lean something against her body for support. Does anyone think this could help?

I don't know how much you want to invest in this little sweetheart but if it were me, I'd take her to the vet for an xray of her hip joints so that you can see exactly what's going on, maybe her hips are deformed or out whack and maybe all of these efforts could be solved by having the vet put them back into place. It could be a muscle and/or ligament issue also which is what I think we are all assuming at this point. I think that you are doing a great job with her but maybe it's time to see what the exact problem is so that you can find a more precise method of helping her?
