HELP CHICK IS BLEEDING FROM BUTT!!

I had a chick hatch at 1:00 pm today on day 20. It will be considered day 21 at around 5:00 pm today. She is bleeding from her butt. I think she tore from her umbilical cord. Is there anything I can do? I am new at hatching chicks.

If she is still actively bleeding, I would put corn starch on the wound to stop the bleeding.

Just apply, dab it on or sprinkle.

Easiest way is to pour a small pile of cornstarch on a paper plate or paper towel then gently dip the butt into the pile a couple times and it will stick where it needs versus getting it all over the place but where you need it by trying to sprinkle. If you can make the room dark enough so that the others hatching can't see the blood and peck at it while waiting for blood to stop. If you have a separate brooder where the baby can dry up and heal away from others even better. Depending if any flesh came off or not this may or may not work. But I've had good results with a pretty heavy bleeder. By day 2 you could never know except for very tiny scab. Good luck

Thank you so much. I repeated the process again doing it on the plate because the first time I did it, I don’t think it got as much as it needed on there. I am hopeful that the chick will be okay. Do you recommend to keep repeating the process of dipping it into corn starch if it continues to bleed some?

It will still take time for a significant bleed to stop. So you will still see some blood for a little bit. I dipped mine a couple times then leave it be. Did you notice if there was any protruding flesh at the site? If not you should be good to go. If yes, it's possible a bit of its insides were pulled out and that's were its chances to recover goes down.
