HELP!!!!! chick with leg open*I DID IT* another update* bad news :(

Aww, what a sweet thing you did for Peg-Leg. She (hopefully) is lucky to have you otherwise she would have died without your help. I can honestly say that I think you are awesome for cutting off the leg. She looks like she is doing fine. I know if I had to be in your position I would have done the same thing. I had to perform Bumblefoot surgery on 2 chickens last year. It was kinda of overwhelming the at time, had to repeat it again and it seems like it didn't bother me as bad the 2nd time around. I commend you for loving the baby so much to do what you did.

Good Luck and best wishes to Peg-Leg

hi Eastinchickens,
first of all i tied some sting just above the bit we cut to stop the blood circulation in the leg, and then after about 3-4 minutes we pinched her leg she still chirped, and the untill about five minutes untill we pinched the leg and she didnt chirp back at us, so we quickly got the blade out and did the deed, didnt bleed much (but dad almost fainted) so then we covered the area untill it had completely stoped bleeding, we put some iodine on and wraped it up with loo paper ( we cut it in to little srips of bandage) and stuck it with a plaster that i cut in half, after an hour or so after she got her strength back and was very determined ate getting the bandage of, she did that so we covered the area with iodine again, and now, a day later, she is still here, and is very healthy, by the way, dad held her while i cut the leg of.
hope that helps,
luke.

well, congrats, this is the 1st post I have read with a chick leg problem go well. I hope she continues to do well for you. I once had a chick that had a leg problem and it didn't go well despite all my efforts, so I am almost in tears over your success story. When I had that chick I looked for someone who had posted a successfull story and found none. Thank you for giving someone who will go through the same thing some hope.

Nice job Luke! Your little chickie looks wonderful! Keep some antibiotic cream on the wound all the time until it heals up and I think she'll be fine. I'm very impressed.

i was just wondering...
she wont be able to scratch!
poor thing, but thats no reason to cull her for,
what else will she not be able to do?
any ideas?
luke.
