Help, chicken attacked by dog.

Looks like he pulled feathers out and not a lot of wounds. Keep putting the spray on and keeping it clean.
Eggs and sugar free yogurt are great, also offer some chicken feed. For drinking, just give plain water mixed with poultry electrolytes. You can also offer milk, if she would prefer that, but not too much. Poor girl, please keep us updated!

Thanks. I 'm just worried that she won't eat. How long can they go without eating and drinking? Should I try and force it? I think when my dog was pulling the feathers out she may have torn some of the skin or taken it with the feathers. It was more visible yesterday. Should I worry about that.

My rooster was attacked a few months ago by a fox.. he would only lie on the ground . We brought him in , we kept him warm and gave him electrolyte with vitamin (rooster booster is the brand I have) and we sprayed where he lost his feathers with vetericyn. I would put tip of his beak in the water and he would drink a little I offered him his chicken pellets and give him his favorite.. corn . I also would cook him boiled eggs and cut it open for him to eat yolk. He is doing better but stays by our house at all times now and has a droopy eye (if anyone has suggestions if that could be remedied that would be great) and his crow is totally different now.

Thanks. THats a good idea. I will put some water in a bowl with electrolytes and try to get her to drink. She has a waterer in the box but I'm wondering if it hurts her neck to tip her head down to drink. I'm hoping it will be okay until I get home from work.

So when I got home today. She was still alive. I tried to get her to drink out of a bowl. But when I put her beak in she wouldn't drink. So I put some in a syringe and squirted it into the side of her mouth. She swallowed a couple of times. But it scared me because she made a gurgling sound. So I don't know if that was just the water going down her esophagus into her crop or what. I only gave her about 3 cc's of water. I made some gruel with chicken feed and water and yogurt. But I haven't tried feeding it to her yet. How often should I try to get water down her? Also when I put her back in her box. She kind of sqwauked at me. Also she did poop in her box. I hope that's a good sign.

Is she walking around? My rooster was very lethargic.. hanging his head, closing his eyes, and laying down after the fox attack for a few days. Did u get electrolyte? My rooster seemed to be more interested in the water when i mixed it in there. Be careful with syringe as it could go down the wrong hole.

Yes, She will walk around a little. But right now she is in a covered storage tote with a hole in it with pine shavings. I didn't squirt the water into her mouth just to the side. So I would think when she swallowed that it was going down the right side. I just don't know if I should try to give her water every hour. Or call it good for today and try again tomorrow with the cup.

thats good she is walking around. I would put a bowl of water for her and some food. I would sit with her for a bit to see if she eats and drink. I think after chickens get attacked they can go into shock and it takes them a bit to recover, it's good you have her in a quiet place. I hope she recovers quickly

How is she today?

I showed the picture to my sis-in law who thinks I’m delaying the inevitable. She used to work for a vet. She said there is no way for the skin to grow back. Has anyone had a wound like this heal? She said an internal infection will kill her. Should i try an antibiotic? I really want to save her but i don’t want her to suffer.
