HELP CHICKEN ATTACKED BY UNKNOWN exposed bone wing

It's just his wing, he can stand and seems to be in not much pain or shock. He's eating and drinking also... I'm just worried about the bone being exposed.
With proper care, exposed bone can heal, according to a human medical site (search "Wound Care for Exposed Cartilage or Bone", the University of Wisconsin has a health fact sheet on it)...seems like we can extrapolate this to poultry. In short, it says to keep the wound moist and covered (they recommend using petroleum jelly).

Thank you so much, I couldn't stand to lose another family member in the same week, but I will take care of him for as long as I have to. And be sure to keep the wound clean.

I'll try to keep the forum updated from time to time, to inspire hope in others who may experience something similar, and show it gets better. No matter what it gets better.

It would be tough but painrelievr for the chicken ,and you could get back to the joint clip it ,try to get the lil bit skin over the joint and super glue skin shut and spray with wound cote purple spray ,,i had to amputate a goat leg and it was a success, i did it without a vet ,, it was a life and death move i had too.

What is wrong with you, I would never kill him. And he's my pet, I would never eat him. I'm assuming you have a chicken if your here, and that is terrible advice to follow. Put your self in my shoes.
currently I don't have any chickens I have in the past and as we speak have 17 chicken eggs and 4 Guinea eggs in the incubator. I also have rabbits raised 4 hogs last year and working on getin more and maybe 3-4 cows. So when I suggested you kill it I was thinking of what's best for him with only one wing he won't be able to fly hell be picked on by the others. And infections got a very good chance of setting in if not there already

I honestly don't know if the bone will ever be covered - you'll find out as the wound heals. Euthanasia is certainly an option, but so is giving the wound a chance to heal if the roo doesn't seem to be suffering too greatly...and that's your decision to make.

It's also possible, even if you don't see external wounds, that he's suffered internal injuries. My personal philosophy is to try to help unless it's clear that's not in the animal's best interest. It would be very informative if another BYCer could share their experience with an injury of this nature.

That is horrible. Who are you to say she should kill him and eat him. She is already stressed and concerned as it is but you are making it worse in effort to help her and give her support I suggest you leave this form.

I was being realistic that she should put it out of its misery. And if you read my post I said DO NOT EAT A CHICKEN THATS BEEN ATTACKED. There's plenty of diseases that can be transmitted from predator to prey.
