HELP CHICKEN ATTACKED BY UNKNOWN exposed bone wing

Aw, poor thing! Is his breast torn into, or is it just his wing? Hard to tell from the picture. I would try to keep the area clean and trim any feathers around it to prevent infection. Keep him warm too, and try to avoid overhandling him.

Don't give up hope either! My friend has a rooster that is practically missing the left side of his face because a snake swallowed his head when he was a chick. He's full grown now even though he looks a little lopsided.

The exposed bone part is what is most concerning to me - flesh wounds (even large ones) can heal well if kept clean and the animal, overall, is healthy. I've used Vetericyn with excellent results on a large wound on a chicken...it's a wound healing spray, available at most feed stores.

As @chickenmomma14 suggested, this injury would best be handled by an experienced vet. If that's not an option, keeping the wound clean and keeping your roo (and others, if applicable) from pecking at it are two key objectives in managing it yourself, IMO. I would use a non-adherent dressing like a Telfa pad on the wound, secured with an elastic bandage like Vetrap. The wound will need to be checked frequently to ensure it's healing properly (and no infection). Serious injuries like this will take time to heal - it may take months. Good luck!

Should I do anything about the exposed bone? Will skin grown back over it? I really need some answers :(

And dispose of it. DO NOT EAT AN ANIMAL THAT HAS BEEN ATTACKED BY A PREDATOR. Next step is to set a trap and catch what attacked him. It will be back and when you catch it do not release it kill it.

I honestly don't know if the bone will ever be covered - you'll find out as the wound heals. Euthanasia is certainly an option, but so is giving the wound a chance to heal if the roo doesn't seem to be suffering too greatly...and that's your decision to make.

It's also possible, even if you don't see external wounds, that he's suffered internal injuries. My personal philosophy is to try to help unless it's clear that's not in the animal's best interest. It would be very informative if another BYCer could share their experience with an injury of this nature.

It's just his wing, he can stand and seems to be in not much pain or shock. He's eating and drinking also... I'm just worried about the bone being exposed.
