Hello,

My 5 month old chicken has been bitten by a dog... this was last night around 9:30pm. We looked all around her body and we only found one wound. Its a hole the size of a tooth mark its not big but looks deep the skin around it is all torn. Its not bleeding this morning we but alcohol on the wound and we put neosporine so far twice today to try and not let it get infected. The only thing im worried about is that she hasn't drank any water and no food also hasnt gone potty... Shes just been sleeping and resting all day ( we have her in the house in a open box with bedding) she gets up every once in a while and stands for a min. then lays back down. I really hope she will be ok!! Ah i've been crying all night all day i just dont want to loose her!!!!!

Also if you've gone through this how long did it take to heal?

Has anyone else gone through this? Can anyone give me some advice? I just need to hear some good news or just talk to someone!!

It's good that she is resting because that means the wound is healing. But she needs to eat and drink. If she is very friendly try putting some food in your hand and put your hand right next to her. This way she doesn't have to get up to get food. If she doesn't eat the regular food you give her try giving her a treat this might entice her to eat. I hope this helped.

Try yogurt, scrambled eggs, watermelon. Don't use any more alcohol, it is hard on tissue. Continue the neosporin, just make sure it is not the kind with pain killer. She is probably in shock. Keep her warm, quiet and comfortable.

Thank you all for replying!!

Yes she is very friendly and i have put water on a spoon and held it to her beak and nothing... I tried giving her fav snack dried worms and nothing... I'm hoping tomorrow she will want to drink... Ive noticed that she will open her mouth like shes gasping or like her mouth is dry. I was going to try and open her beak myself and make her drink water.. or should i just leave her alone..? What do you guys think?

Thanks so much!

Oh no. I'm so sorry - I think the shock killed her. Chickens have recovered from some horrendous wounds. But the fear of being eaten alive can send them into shock.
