Glimmer our beloved pet chicken died in her chicken run today at 10:00 P.M.. She was stretched out with her mouth and eyes closed. There was so sign of a struggle. She was always a mystery breed, we at first thought she was an Ameracauna because of her beard, and we were getting two green eggs a day (One from our for-sure Ameracauna and the other from Glimmer, we think.) Now for some odd reason we are getting two brown eggs a day (One from our Silver-Laced Wyandotte and Glimmer...?). It was like she changed her egg color. We have only been getting one green egg and one brown egg for a few days now so we think it might have been possible that she was egg bound. Glimmer was the sturdiest and healthiest chicken in our flock. I'm surprised, and devestated about her death, I was totally not expecting it. She has been eating and drinking well but we think she might have been molting... or maybe something else was happening. Her beard is falling off and the feathers on her head are too. We really paid no mind to think because our Ameracauna was missing her head feathers also. Please if you need anymore information ask! Her death was startling and incredibly sad. R.I.P. Glimmer, you were the best chicken ever and you will be missed.

Thank you so so much and if you know any chicken experts whom you think will help me crack this case please send this to them or ask them in some way. I really appricate the time you spent to read this and thank you for replying if you can!!

No, not at all, I thought there was nothing wrong with her that I could see. I left the house and came back a few hours later and was greeted by a dead Glimmer. :(

Did she have any marks on her like from an injury, or other chickens pecking at her or plucking her feathers? I'm sorry for your loss- people frequently report this kind of sudden death
and rarely find a reason.

The other chickens did peck here from time to time, but she did not have any bleeding or open wounds when we found her. Thank you for helping! :)
