hey everyone, my name is Marty and i have a chicken who is stumping me with her behavior and I need help from the veterans.
Back story, adopted 4 road islands from someone who was moving into a place where chickens were not allowed. I have had the chickens for over a year now and have noticed signs of an issue with one of my ladies, her name is Gilda .
Signs:
- the walk. So I am sure sure she has been walking funny for a while now if not since we’ve had her. Her walk is unusual. Instead of reaching with her claw like a tip toe motion, she waddles almost like a duck on dry land.
- not always hanging with the flock.Gilda kind of does her own thing, however is not bullied by the others.
- bed time. Is not kicked out of the group but is more along the lines as protected by the three others. She doesn’t roost but rather beds down.
-loves her dust baths..
-eating/drinking. She eats very well and drink’s ( I add apple cider vinegar 1:5 ratio). Layer feed with oister shells)
-Egg laying. She is struggling. No shell/ sometimes soft or broken shells.
- very docile. No visible signs of pain, or bumble foot. Legs are definitely spried .
I believe the egg laying is a sign of a deeper underlying problem and I don’t want to lose our Gilda girl! Thoughts?
