HELP!!! chicken with flap of skin hanging, what to do?

So far she's hanging in there. From what I can tell there's no infection as of yet and she's been eating and drinking, stools still look normal. I have her separated from the flock still and I am continuing with the neosporin, but discontinued the pain killer solution a few days ago. I'm afraid to give her any company just yet, I want her to heal a bit more, since I know chickens like to peck at injuries and I don't want her to be reinjured due to another chicken pecking at her. Thank you for asking, I appreciate it!!!

Glad she's doing well.

Incredibly, my girl is doing just fine! I never imagined this would be the outcome, soooo glad I didn't put her down.
She's left with a 3-4" ... 'hard spot' which is getting smaller by the week. suppose it's a scab.

I'm still putting the blue kote on her to keep anyone from pecking it - but i haven't used the wound spray or cider vinegar for awhile.

My girls have never been very predicatable layers, so I'm pleased that we still randomly get 6 eggs (which means she's laying).
I read a lot about the blue kote - so a note on that, it doesn't seem to affect the eggs at all, minus some seems to rub off on the outer shell occassionally. (but no ill effects inside/taste etc).

I'll add a pic of her recovery to date soon.
Good luck everyone!

Ahotchick, I'm glad your girl is doing so well! It's refreshing to know chickens can survive such terrible injuries and they can be saved and don't necessarily have to put them down. I hope she continues to do well and you don't have to go through that again.

CluckNCrazy, how is your girl doing? Is she healing okay?

She is doing remarkably well. No sign of infection, she is eating and drinking well. Plus side all of the extra TLC she is becoming a bit spoiled. Funny note instead of her going into the coop with the other girls at bedtime she comes to the front door! (been keeping her separate from the others at night) Thank you so much for asking!

I'm glad to hear she's doing so well. That is funny about her new bedtime routine, it sounds like she is enjoying all the special attention

I hope she continues to do well and heals up quickly.

Update... she's now completely healed - a 2 inch area does not seem to now have any feathers :) but ALL HEALED. Amazing.

That's great to hear!!! My girl has finally started to scab up a bit, but she is still in the process of regrowing her skin back, but doing well. I still keep her away from the flock, because I had tried to put her in with them after a couple weeks, but the other birds kept looking at her injury and then started pecking at it and she ended up bleeding again, so I have had to keep her separate with just the one of my most docile hens as company. It's good to know you can take certain measurements and you don't have to cull them. It amazes me as well how these birds are able to come back from such terrible injuries!
