I had six barred rocks 5 months old. Earlier this week I went out and one was down and couldnt walk. I ended up having to put her down. I go out there today and one is dead and another one is sitting down instead of standing up and every time I would get her up she would sit back down. Comb and waddles very pale, and feet are cold. no discharge from the nose, no sneezing, no coughing or respiratory issues at all as far as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated.

First thing is to check for lice, mites, and other pests and predators. After that, check to make sure there is no mold or other issues with the food or algae in the water. If they free-range, take a look around and see if they may have gotten into something poisonous. Depending on temperature, also look at dehydration. There are a number of things that it could be, and the fact that it is tearing through the flock so quickly and harshly is alarming for sure. Check for snakes and rats as well, and make sure it's raccoon proof at night. Sometimes they will take them, other times they will scare or bite them and then get scared off themselves and leave the carcass. Sorry to hear about all this, I know how frustrating it is. Our go out to free range and then just never come back :-( Hope someone else chimes in with some better advice!

Funny thing is I have 7 tractors in a staggered row and only that 1 tractor with barred rocks in it has had this problem. All 3 of the ones that died had almost no body weight. And the water bucket had a nipple that stuck open and the water drained out. It was in high 80s low 90s here but would dehydration get them down like that? The one that I had in confinement was pooping liquid pure white poo

i would look up the symptoms for coccidiosis.if it is that you need to act quickly but do a search and see what you think.

Thanks!!! I think/thought/thinking maybe worms. I wormed the whine flick after the third bird died in the same tractor and waited a day and did duramyacin next and so far everything is good for the rest of the birds. Not 100% sure what I had but I had the state board if animal health to come out 3 days ago and do a test on my birds for npip and he told me how to kinda check for coccidiosis and respiratory issues in my dead chickens. He was a biiiig help and very nice to deal with.
