Thanks for chiming in. Things are going well. It's been 10 days and I'm doing my best to get them to warm up to me. So far.. this guy (Hawkeye) is the only brave one that will cautiously take treats from my hand.. the last two days. We shall see how it goes as time goes by. Should I try to grab one and hold/pet it for a period of time.. or let it be on their terms?
I handled mine a lot but they were all pullets and it turned out great, they are super friendly and well behaved. I've heard varying opinions on handling cockerels and the pullets when you have both sexes. When those hormones get going some say it might lead the boys to not respect you. The pullets looking to you rather than the cockerel as the boss might also cause friction. I've never raised EE but generally I've heard their a pretty friendly breed. I'd say let them come to you on their own terms. It's going to be rather cold later this week here in PA so I hope all goes well keeping them warm!
