Help! Cockerel caught in trap! *ASAP*

just tagging along to wish Truce a good recvery.

I think that trap looks nasty. Not only does it crush, it has teeth shaped grooves that lock together exerting even more force but the injury could have been a lot worse imo so he must have stopped most of the force with his leg while standing on it and then got his leg trapped while moving away, otherwise it should have been broken.

It's just a shame no medecine or a plint was ever applied as those were the only things suggested.

I have £1 disinfecting (human) cream always lyng about. It really does not need to brake the bank.

Heck even hydrogen peroxide can be used to clean wounds which costs pennies.

But to recommend human spit as a disinfectant? No... I think human spit must contain a lot of bacteria and the whole point of disinfecting is not to add something, it is to remove bacteria.

Like pointed out a million honey bee's saliva is probably not disinfecting either.

Why a plint was never added is beyond me. Even just some medical tape wrapped around it would give it some support.

The green blob is trapped blood, that shouldn't cause any issues but the wound loooks like it will develop gangreen unless it is disinfected daily!

Just to clarify: Straight from the beekeeper or pasteurized doesn't matter, for medicinal use. It needs to be sterilized to remove any bacteria or pathogens from the bees/ pollen/environment before it can be used medically on an open wound. It's not a matter of purity or being organic, it's a matter of cleanliness to prevent infection.

Just trying to clear things up so no one goes and rubs whatever honey they have in the pantry on their chicken's open wound

Processed honey has no medical use
