Help! Cockerel caught in trap! *ASAP*

I'm in the UK and I don't think we have the same store honey you do in the US! Ours is basically just pure honey, nothing else. And I think it is pasteurised. But I get mine straight from a local beekeeper anyway.
Just to clarify: Straight from the beekeeper or pasteurized doesn't matter, for medicinal use. It needs to be sterilized to remove any bacteria or pathogens from the bees/ pollen/environment before it can be used medically on an open wound. It's not a matter of purity or being organic, it's a matter of cleanliness to prevent infection.

Just trying to clear things up so no one goes and rubs whatever honey they have in the pantry on their chicken's open wound. 😊

How would you purify it? Boil it? If boil, for how long?

Boiling honey is actually a bad idea. It destroys the enzymes in the honey and makes it even more at risk of growing bacteria or mold. If you're going to use honey, it needs to be Manuka honey or MediHoney since these brands are made and sterilized specifically for medicinal purposes.

Ohhh. Ok. Yeah, I think I knew that boiling honey killed the good stuff, because when we'd make ketchup, we'd add the honey after the ketchup was cooked so the honey would stay raw. I was thinking boil because to make Saline, I have to boil the water. Where do you get Manuka Honey and/or MediHoney?

You can get it at some pharmacies, but depending on where you live, you might only be able to get it online. Our local pharmacy doesn't carry it.

Not to interrupt the honey conversation but,
@cluckmecoop7 how's the boy?

He got to go outside today and visit his ladies! He seemed to really enjoy it, but he wouldn't use his leg at all. He just hops around and uses his wings to balance. I also noticed that he is SUPER DUPER friendly. Friendlier than all the other chickens I have! He hops over and just wants to be cuddled. ❤️ I'm about to go clean his wound, so I'll update on that later. Will he ever use his foot again?

He will most likely heal from the injury almost completely. Starburst had an Australorp with
nerve damage and couldn't walk for a few months. After medicine, tlc, and rest, she slowly hopped her way back to recovery, and now acts like any other chicken.

I know Jasmine's (the Australorp's) story is a bit different, but chickens can heal from amazing things!

Praying Truce has a speedy recovery! :hugs

Hard to say.....only time will tell.
