HELP! Corid for calves??

I've read if on Corid, to use Safeguard instead of Wazine.

My only concern with using Corid and Wazine at the same time is that adding two medications to the water might make it less palatable, which would make it less effective. If they were mine I would give the Wazine orally, or I would give Safeguard orally.

I just remembered that I purchased some items from Hakes Twin City Poultry right after I got my chickens. I wanted to have some things on hand that I thought I might need. 1 of the things is a product called Worminator. It says it works on roundworms and many other worms. 1 drop for bantams and 2 for LF. Ever heard of this product....what do you think?

Does the Wazine have the dosage on it for giving it orally? I have 2- 14 week old bantams, 2 year old bantams and 2 - 18 week old LF.

Can you go to Walmart or Target and buy a food scale?

Do you have a 1 ml syringe? If you don't have one, you might be able to find a 1 ml oral dosing syringe in a pharmacy.

Edited to add:
Any 1 ml syringe will do (no needle of course), but I don't think many feed stores sell the 1 ml because of the IV drug use problems with people.

• How do I know if I should be administering medication orally?

This depends upon various factors, such as what the medication is and how ill your bird is. In general, keep in mind that oral dosing is often the best way to control dosage and to ensure that your bird actually receives this dosage.

• What tools do I need to dose orally? Where do I get them?

You will need a small oral medication (needleless) syringe, suggested size 1 ml/cc, depending upon the dose being administered. They can be easily obtained online (for example, search for “oral medication syringe” on Amazon).

You will need a helper to ensure the safety and proper medication of your bird.

1. Have your medication measures and the syringe prepared before taking any action.
2. Catch and restrain the bird.
3. Have your helper gently pry the bird’s beak open.



4. Be sure that you understand where the medication-filled syringe should be inserted.
The opening in the center at the back of the tongue is the trachea – nothing should ever go in there!




5. Gently insert the syringe alongside the right hand side of tongue, and inject the medication slowly to ensure that it does not spill over into the trachea.
