Hi y'all,
I have four coturnix quail. This evening I opened the hutch to take care if the male and female and the male flew out. He has done this before but I always saw where he landed and was able to find him. He flies and then sits in the grass or whatever, I almost stepped on him once.

This time he flew about fifty feet and I know the generel area he landed in. I have been walking around looking for him and playing quail crow noises to try to get him to crow but it doesnt work he is not tamed and does not know his name. ANY help or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

we had one escaped. It would come back around the hutch in the morning. I seen it 3 times in 2 weeks. I didn't manage to catch it though... That's the hard part.
Was it about the size of a mango? Thats how big this guy is. And the hutch is off the ground so idk if he would come back. He flew over animal fencing so Idk if he could get back over that.

Ok. Now it's pouring and he is still hiding. I am hesitant to go in inside because if he flies again I won't see. I'm also starting to panic because i'm worried I will never see him again.

A mango? No. All but one of our quail are Jumbo Browns. Certainly larger than mangoes.

Ours flew over a 6ft privacy fence when it got out and each time I tried catching it. They can fly over if they want to.

Another idea would be to set a live trap with some meal worms or other treats/feed the bird would like. I've used live traps to catch possums, but managed to catch a number of birds accidentally in the process.

This one isn't a Jumbo though, he is about mango sized
Also, have any fireworks laying around for the 4th? A loud noise would scare the bugger and cause him to pop up. You'll have to track him down though right away.
And no, no fireworks..

I feel so bad...the poor boy is out on his own, and he's going to get rained on more tonight and something will probably eat him...all because I opened the door. Is there anything else I can do?
