HELP CRIPLED AYLESBURYS?!

thanks , and i know i included how i got him his breed his age and the set up is a large shed , but ouddoors during daytime at a pond and a warm shed with a heat lamp at night! all the other ducks are fine just him! im just making a point that my ducks are fine with how i feed them and are the healthiest ducks that ive seen bar herbie! hes just so sick nd it seems as if he can sort of use one leg but not very well! i think that ill ask my other vet because the first one said he was extremely healthy and may av just bruised his leg and it will be better soon but its getting worse and i posted the feed they were and the one they are on! did you read the post?!

From the many posts I have read, and my own experience with my Runners and Buffs, it appears to me that there are some exceptional ducks, who don't follow the guidelines and do not thrive with the very same management that keeps the rest of the flock healthy and happy.

You may be dealing with an injury, or you may not. From what we know here I don't think I could say for sure.

Getting ducks into lukewarm water deep enough to float in takes pressure off legs, increases circulation and strengthens and relaxes muscles. Perhaps you can try that.

Extra vitamins are a good approach for many problems with duck health, as they give the duck a boost for managing injury and illness.

Sometimes more protein can help, depending on the nature of the problem.

ive bred ducks for a long time and always put them on layeres pellets at 4 weeks jusst like chickens and they are completely fine! i dont know maybe the feed in ireland is differand but thats how we all do things here and bearing in mind , this is only 2 chicks out of 8 , so the food is not the problem , its that they are aylesbury drakes and i do not need critism i need a solution so f you dont think i know what im doing dont comment , but if you hav solution to keep originally meat birds from eating themselves dead , and reversing what has happened within 3 days well THEN comment! im dont need your critism , all the other ducks have always been fine!!!!!!!!!!

and marwan , thankyou soooooo much i didnt hear of these tablets so i think u jus let me breath again haha thankyou ill let u know how he gets on :D
No problem :D hope it works for you. i dont think its anything to do with their diet just like mine some need extra niacin and the tablets being pure niacin work best and take effect fast rather than brewers yeast which only has traces of niacin and would take much longer if no effect at all. let me know if it works out and good luck :D

No wonder they had issues with their legs- that is not a balanced diet either. Im glad that you are now a member on this site and can get the information you need to feed your ducks a correct diet.
my ducks were absoluetly fine. at the time it had problems with its legs it was eating pellets all the time with veggies every two days but like a big mixed veggie bowl with all sorts in it. diet wasnt the problem it just had a lack of niacin it would seem because they both ate the same thing and one was completley health and fine and the other wasnt walking. it was the individual ducks need.

Sorry- but just to clarify- if a duck is deficient in niacin- then the issue is diet related. Animals - just like us humans get the nutrients we need from our food. If we are not getting enough of something in our diet- then we are said to be deficient.

Marwan- If you go back and read exactly what you have written- you do not mention about the fact that they were eating pellets as well in the statement you made. I do believe that the OP in this case is a relatively young member and being clear in what you mean is very important. It would be very easy for someone to read what you have written exactly the way I did in that crushed corn and vegetables is all you fed you ducks- They may then use that as the sole diet for their own ducks-. I understand you mean to help- but being very clear is important. This thread is about helping the OP to do what she can to help an ailing duckling- writing something about a feeding regime that can be misinterpreted may not benefit the duckling in question at all.

ok well herbie has just been swimming and i washed him he seems much more alert ju from a little paddle! and i will ask the vet about nacin 2moro thanku everyone! and i think that if we breed our own ducks we k now them best and know their needs! if our ducks are healthy then were looking after them lets not critisice eachothers diets! marwans ducks are healthy therefore her diet is fine! i have a differant approach and mine are fine 2 so we all have differant approaches we must open our minds 2 them
