HELP! Crop issues

You're doing well on your treatments. The miconazole with the ACS won't hurt. And by all means worm her. That may well be her problem. But be ready to treat for shock if she has a heavy worm load. One cup water with one teaspoon sugar and a pinch of salt and baking soda.

Stubborn crop issues usually have an underlying cause, not just yeast, which is secondary. After you worm her, I suggest the three-day Epsom salt flush. It's tubed into the chicken twice a day for three days consecutively. This will flush out dead worms and the yeast. You will need to obtain a tubing kit from a vet or buy it off Amazon.

You can relieve her crop but follow these instructions exactly. Stand her on the ground. Carefully tipping her forward at a 45 degree angle (DO NOT HOLD HER UPSIDE DOWN) exert slight upward pressure with your fingers at the bottom of her crop. Do it very slowly and carefully. If she starts to cough, stop.

Ok I will do that. What wormer do you suggest? I have Safeguard paste & Equimax paste.

Ok I wormed her yesterday according to the math on Safeguard ratio to her weight. Do I need to give her this again today or do I wait the 10 (?) days before another dose. She's actually eating and her crop is smaller, but not totally empty this morning. She is still pooing mostly urates and it's very liquid. Her demeanor seems a bit more alert today almost to the point of being annoyed she's STILL in the damn crate. lol

So glad to hear this. We are dealing with an impacted crop. She showed improvement after a treatment called slippery elm (helps to smooth GI tract) and a dewormer. So it's not clear which one was the key. For the record, I found an actual roundworm in her poop.

Slippery elm was prescribed by our vet last year when the same hen had impacted crop. It was in conjunction with other medicines too but after this round, I feel it could be very good to treat crop issues as it helps then to pass stuff.

Slippery elm can be bought as a supplement in many health food stores.

Well this morning I took her out in her crate to see her sisters. She really perked up.

She pooped in the crate and I def saw something wriggling around in it. I don't, however, have a way to tell what kind it is. She of course stepped in it i her excitement and now i don't see it anyway. Her crop is not completely empty but much much smaller than it was before.

@azygous Will it be OK to let her back in the run and retreat her with Safeguard in 10 days?? I will be worming all the girls at this point. Should I treat for gapeworm with Safeguard?? If so, I missed a day because I wasn't sure if I should. I know they are rare, but we did have a very wet Spring here and they all feasted on lots of earthworms in their dirt run for weeks.
