Ok so first incubator janoel 48 style auto temp and humidity have been maintained throughout nil issues day 18 removal of eggs from auto turn and humidity increased to 75.

Now the evening of day 21 have approximately 20 New Hampshire and Sussex eggs. These were candled at day 7-18 and growing progressive fertile.

I am concerned no pips developed. I started at 0800 on the 9th July and I am at 2100 on July 30 with no pip or sign of hatching. Should I be concerned ? Thanks

Do you have a separate thermometer in there or just the one built into the bator? Thermometers can often be inaccurate and it's possible your temps are slightly low thus leading to a late hatch. If you saw good development at day 18 then everything should be OK. Maintain humidity and wait another 24 hours. I've had plenty of eggs hatch on day 22 even under good broodies.

Hey WyandottH
In the incubator i had chicks pip on day 23 once, and a successful hatch as i recall. Under the hen it can take a while longer than 21 days because you do not have a controlled environment. When you are sure in your own mind that it's run its course, take an egg, one at a time and VERY carefully pick a small hole in the shell at the air pocket end and see if there is movement. A very steady hand is needed. Don't break the membrane. If they still don't hatch, then it's probably a problem at the development stage. Too big to stay in the shell but something like, for example, the yolk sack may not have been fully absorbed . If they haven't fully absorbed the yolk, which is their food in the egg, they won't have the energy to break out. A bit like going to the gym on an empty stomach
