Hello everyone on byc, we have read loads on here as we have our 3 chickens and 4 Muscovies and your site has been invaluabl to us.
my question is how long can a Muscovy sit on her fertilised eggs for, we were hoping last Wednesday to see our first set of ducklings as it was day 35 after sitting, tomorrow Is day 42, we have candled the eggs and all of the fertilised ones are moving inside and even hear a chirping from some, but can’t really see any “pipping”.
this is our first experience of any kind and we want to make sure we give momma duck the best chance of hatching naturally. She only leaves them for around 15-20 mins in the morning. She is sitting on around 30 yes 30 eggs, she took one of the other females eggs after they started sitting at the same time, the other female left the nest and now she has been on these 30 eggs for 41 days.
any help or advice or anybody that has had a really long wait for hatching, we would love to hear from ASAP.
thank you so much, hopefully tomorrow morning, fingers crossed.
ps weather here in France has been all over the Place, 39c some days, 12c some others.

Day 42 for Muscovy mumma, we candled eggs again and lots of movement in around 20 of them, really excited as one has pipped externally this morning and is starting to zip as we see a series of small cracking. Pretty Sure we can hear movement all day under mumma duck and she is very unsettled, chirping away and standing up and down regularly shuffling around, but not enough to see anything under her.
fingers crossed tomorrow morning there will be ducklings for mumma duck.
