We're on day 8 of the incubation and we have noticed a few different bugs in the incubator and around it. We saw ants and dead flies. Can you please tell us if this normal or abnormal. When candling the egg we saw a black spot, is this the baby chick eye or a bug?? Is our chick growing or did it die?

Hi :welcome

Your egg looks like it is developing well, did you see the embryo moving? Here are some candling pics to compare with yours ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=230

Bugs and ants are not ideal in the incubator but if you have removed them things should be fine. Did you see how they got in there? I've had an odd fly get in mine through one of the vent holes in the base. Did you clean it out thoroughly prior to setting eggs?

Hello and thank you for responding. No we did not see the embryo moving. The egg looks similar to the candling pictures. We don't see many veins but we saw a few.

Far as the bugs the incubator was clean prior to setting my egg. And we cleaned it out when we noticed the bugs/flies. I didn't see how they got in there but we do have vent holes. I'm worried since we are incubating/hatching in our home.
