Help deciding on a breed.....

I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte Dot and not only does she tolerate my dogs but she also is really good around my 3 year old cousin who likes to pet her a lot.

I also have Araucana and they are really colorful in eggs and in feather color. I have had these birds as my babies for six years now and these colorful egg layers have never stopped laying an egg. My hens can lay the blue and green eggs I have heard that there are some others that can lay pink.

I hope that I have been of some help, I am sorry if I haven't, I am new here and your post caught my eye.

Buff Orphingtons are great as well as barred rocks. White Leghorns tend to lay lots of jumbo size eggs, but most people think they are flighty. I raise Leghorns and Barred Rocks. Mine are not flighty, but I've spent a considerable amount of time with them as chicks and beyond. I prefer my leghorns and leghorn x barred rocks for egg layers. I am also starting to get into silkies as they are great setters and beautiful to boot. My friend has silkies and polish and they are very friendly as well. Let us know what you decide.

I recently got some sex-link chicks called Golden Comets. They are supposed to be excellent layers and quiet peaceful birds. I got them because they are easily sexed from day one, very quiet, hardy birds that can withstand our climate (cold in the winter!) and I love their golden color. Not to mention that I wanted lots of eggs! I can't vouch for any of the above claims yet, my GC's are just 2 wks old!

But that's what I've heard and read about them!

I also got some EE chicks, Barred Rocks, and Buff Orps for the same reasons.

Have fun picking your flock!
