New to the whole chicken thing....Got our first egg from a RIR hen about 5 days ago. We didn't know who layed it (10 hens and it was on the ground) The next day we figured out who it was...actually watched her lay in the laying box. She seemed a little confused as to what to do with it...kept rolling it around until I took it away. Well yesterday she layed another egg in the box. This time she wanted to sit on it. Had a time getting it from her...she wouldn't move. Had to completely move her from the box to take it. Well today she has just been sitting behind the water hanger...head down...doesn't really react when you touch her or anything. LOOKS depressed. Not eating or drinking today...I haven't seen her move. What could be wrong with her? She is about 6 months old. All other chickens are acting fine. She is the only laying so far.

If you put some fake eggs in the nesting box it, will help the new hens know where to lay. This is all new to your hen and she may feel a litle off. just keep a eye on her and make sure she is eating and drinking. Congrats on the new layers.

Thanks. She would not go to roost last night. Just layed on the ground. Went to check on her this morning and she had layed an egg on the ground but refuses to move. I put her in the laying box but she seems so lethargic. Not wanting to eat or move. Is this normal for first time layers or could something be wrong with her?
