Hi everyone,

I had 6 viable eggs in the lockdown. One pipped 24 hours ago and hatched 12 hours ago. The other eggs havent done anything. Now I read that you should actually put them in the incubator with the narrow end of the egg down, opposite of what i did. Might the chicks be in the eggs upside down now?
When i checked them they had airsacks in the broad end. Is there anything i can do to help them? or check whether they are alive?

I feel really bad for the single chick now

I would say upside brown incubation would definitely be an issue. What temperature and humidity did you incubate it? What were the temperature and humidity at lockdown?
You can always get atwoods or tractor supply "cousins" for your baby! ❤

First phase was 40-50% hum. and 37.5 C
Lockdown at 70% hum and 37.7

Is there something i could do now? or check whether they still have a chance?

The chick that did hatch actually pipped near the narrow side. Is that an indication that she was wrong side up aswell? airsack was in on the other side

yes i can. I see an airsack in the broad part and a chick (i think, its filled up) but no movement i can notice.

looking at the one that did hatch, she may not have even pierced her airsack. Is that possible? It looked quite complete and she opened the egg on the other side

If the hatched one cracked through the shell on the pointed end she may have opened the membrane enough right away to breathe during hatching.

When candling can you see which end the head is on?

I am really hoping you get more pipping really soon.

I will candle again and look for a head. Considering that chick made it that way, is there any point at which i should help the chicks if they are the wrong side up? maybe make a tiny hole in the narrow part so the could hatch without the airsack aswell?

What day are they on?

I would want to help them too but helping to early can be traumatic if they are still absorbing the yolk or if you nick a blood vessel.
Helping to late is also a risk and equally traumatic.

I am hoping more experienced hatchers pop in soon.

Thank you so much for all the help already, its much appreciated! This is sunday afternoon for me and they went in saturday night. so day 21-22. silkies and one has been out for 24 hours now. I dont see movement while candling :(

If anyone with experience could help that would be awesome!
