I have been told Turkey's are quite finicky but what we have been experiencing seems unreasonable., we have set roughly 15 or 16 eggs turkey eggs, our hatch rate has been about 60%, the part that really concerns me is that our of our first 4 that hatched only 1 survived, the rest pasted after a few days, some seemed to flip over and had difficulty getting up so we had to use a ring to keep them upright. The next few we had 3 of 6 eggs hatch and all 3 did well however we had 1 that flipped as well and again had to use the ring. Today we had 5 eggs and 2 have hatched with two more that are piped. One hatched and passed almost immediately in the incubator, the other we put in the brooder and it got stuck in the water fountain and I guess it couldn't get out.

Any tips or tricks with Turkey's, we hatch Ducks, Quail and Chickens and have been very successful. We got the parents as chicks last year and had no issue with raising them all 6 survived. I have stopped setting eggs from the pair that we found the chicks to flip over. We should have some hatching from our royal palm eggs shortly and hope we can figure out what is going on before we lose anymore. The poults that have been passing are mixed breed. We have tried the "stress aid" from the farm pharmacy that is essentially vitamins and electrolyte you mix in the water.

Thanks

Far too little information to know what is the problem.

Incubator settings during incubation and during lockdown.

Feed that the adults are being given.

FOS (flip over syndrome) is usually a dietary problem of the parents.

Incubator is not the issue as we hatch all our eggs in the 2 cabinet incubators and have 90% or better with our other poutry eggs. As far as feed they are on layer pellets with fresh veg a few time a week. Now that the weather is better the free range throughout the day. We did have them on game bird feed but the feed store said turkey can have chicken feed but not the other way around. The turkey's share a pen with a dozen chickens and a pair of runner ducks. The pen they are in, in the poultry barn is 144 sq feet with a 14x16 run which is open this time of year and they have several acres to roam.

Saying they are on layer pellets means nothing. If you want help, you need to provide information. Not all layer feed is the same quality.

I would not use that feed. I will not use a feed that does not disclose the lysine or methionine amounts. It is normal to not print the niacin concentration but lysine and methionine are very important to you turkeys. The only reason to not disclose those amounts is if they are less than what they should be.

It's posted on their website, but not on the tag for some reason. It seems to be more than sufficient in those aminos.

Lysine 0.7%
Methionine 0.3%

@Normy84 what's your incubator humidity through incubation? Turkeys need slightly higher humidity than chickens during the first 2.5 weeks. If you're used to one type of poultry, you might need to adjust some of your method. They all seem to be a little different to get exactly right.

I disagree. I hatch turkeys fine with 30% humidity during the incubation phase and 65% to 70% at lockdown.
