Help! Dog Attack.

Thanks, Trish.

Great news, rockchick!! They do grow their feathers back at an amazing rate, so there is hope.

yes, thanks Trish - hope so. I guess its early days to be too excited but it certainly looks like she'll be fine. I'm intrigued to see how it heals and if the skin and feathers grow back. Thanks again to all of you - I'll definitely be back!

It never ends! Today Pearl sat in the nest box all day....the empty nest box, not the one with eggs in it. I decided she isn't feeling good, so I moved her in with Bridget and the babies.

It's so sad. I wonder if she is relapsing. She seemed to do so good for a few days and now she just sits in the coop all day and when the others come in for the night, she stays far away from them and sleeps on the floor. She seemed very happy to see Bridget when I put her in there. So...I guess I'll just keep those two in with the babies for now.

Now on to the broody. How long do eggs keep? I have ten saved from yesterday and today. If I decide not to let her brood until next Monday, will the eggs be too old?

Good morning Indigo, maybe Pearl just went back too soon, i hope she comes around again now that she is back with Briget. as far as eggs I think I read 10 days is max. but don't quote me. might be able to find it on the Google search on the top right of this page.

I hope so too! If we have to "get rid" of her, it would be hard, but my consolation is she wont know the difference, and if she isn't feeling well, it might be the best thing for her. If she can't mix back with the flock, I don't think she is going to be very happy in the long run.
Oh my. I have so much stress right now.

What am I going to do?

Girls are about the same. I got some dmso yesterday, but I haven't put it on yet.
I lucked out this time. The broody decided she didn't want to be broody.

This is totally ok with me. I don't need that right now. When I am ready to hatch eggs, I'll give her a try.

Hi Indigo, glad to hear your broody isn't broody, I had one change her mind to, thank goodness I still have one sitting and my duck is sitting so i don't need another one. I hope the DMSO helps your girls get back on the feet. It doesn't smell all that good but it works great. let me know if you see any difference after using it.

O my goodness! My heart is still beating like crazy! I saw a bunch of my chickens running around the house, and I went outside to open their popdoor so they could get water before bed. As I came around the corner of the house, I saw a fox run into the woods. Two of my girls were standing not a hundred feet from him screeching like crazy, standing up to him as the rooster got the others to safety.

Wow!! I am freaked out and awed all at the same time, to see how they worked together to protect. It makes me feel sick tho, because I wonder how long it will be until it gets one of them.

Thank goodness you got there when you did, he will probably be back, so hope you'll be ready. yesterday all my birds were out running around and my dogs starting barking like crazy, when I looked out in the driveway I could see my goose and thought they were barking at him but as I got to the gate I saw a very large dog coming up the drive, went in a got the shot gun, by the time I got back out there he was heading away but I did shoot the gun in that direction to let him know he is not wanted around here. We have to be on guard all the time! Glad yours are all safe.
