HELP! DOG ATTACKED AGAIN!!

that would be one dead dog if she ever brings it back. I read on here just this past week about never, ever using peroxide on an open wound, to flush with saline solution. please follow the advice already given by some of the experienced folks on here. Experience rules over what you will read in a book.

I'd make her pay for the damage that her dog caused, especially after you told her the first time...
I'm glad that your hurt ones are doing okay...I'd keep a close eye on that Brahma...

I dont think the dog deserves all this negative attention. The dog is being a dog. If the owner was a responsible one, the dog would never have been able to get near the chickens. Is there any way to relocate the sis? I sent mine to Arizona and i have not had a problem since

I haven't used it, but was told that BluKote...for horses....is good for spraying on their wounds.

Is that anything like the blue stuff my dad used on his cows? I recall him spraying a blue med on their hoofs or something of that nature.

You are right. The dog is doing what comes natural. It is her responsibility to see that he doesn't. She thought by tieing him up for a few days would teach him. That's bull, she should have kept him tied up. Not set him in time out and then let him have at it. She has 2 dogs. Tippy-everyone loves but she makes her way to my house whenever it storms cuz she can get through the dog door and feel safe. That would be ok but then she pisses on my carpet. After telling her this, she said why don't you close the dog door. ME?!!!!!!!!! It's on her to keep her dog home. I have cats that use that door during the night. Tippy has never bothered my chickies. But the other dog, Dingo-has lived up to his name by killing my flock. As a dog owner, my dogs stay their place. They don't go roaming like hers. It is every dog owners responsibility to keep their dogs home or pay for the damage they do.
Update on my babies: they have all made it through another night. I cleaned the wounds with saline then put betadine on them. They are eating and drinking. And there are no maggots. I still can't believe that the Brahma has lived. She is so pitiful. I guess I'm doing something right after all. I'll keep going at this rate, maybe they will all pull through. Thanks to all for your advice.

You are doing a great job, and if all is going well, I would keep doing what you are doing. I do love bluekot though. I almost always have some in the barn. It worked great when my lucky got attacked by that coon. I just did what you did, cleaned the wound twice a day and sprayed bluekot on afterward. she healed up real nice.

I'm glad to hear your chickens are doing better. I use the "blue stuff" on all my animals, too. I also agree with everyone who said "down with the dog." My neighbors have to mutt pups that have made 2 attacks on my flock now. Yesterday, they came onto my property and attacked my littlest Buff and my BR, Henny Penny. The little Buff won't make it. Henny Penny put up one hell of a fight, and I think she'll be ok. For the second time, I went to my neighbor and told them that when their pups come back down here, and they will, I will shoot them. Evidently these people don't care if the pups live or die. Too bad, because I don't enjoy killing anything. But I know from experience that once a dog enjoys the thrill of the chase, and eventually the kill, there's only one cure.

If your sister cannot keep her dog in check she should get rid of it. It will not stop. my neighbors dog killed four of mine and he offered to get rid of the dog immed. That dog was at a shelter the next day. erinm
yes the owners are responsible for their dogs but if they can not do what is right then the animal should go. Just my opinion.

We had a dog a couple years ago-and we learned the hard way. He was a rott-chow mix who seemed to do ok when he was a pup. The bigger he got, the more interested he became in my chickens. He managed to kill 7 of them one day when he got loose-half my flock at the time. He was gone the same day. Being the dog lover that my husband is (I am not because I love my chickens too much) , I let him adopt two more that needed homes-with the firm understanding that they be very securely locked up in their kennel when my chickens were out. That worked for a little while. Until the one dog kept finding ways to dig and chew its way out of the kennel. Each time, he went right for the coop. (beagle-mix) We reinforced the floors and the fencing a dozen times over, but it didn't matter what we did, that dog still managed to get out. Heck, my DH even had a name for the kennel: "Alcatraz", in other words, no escape. We spent a lot of time trying to train these dogs, but to no avail. Ever encounter a dog with no hope of being taught? They were both like that. What a headache it was. We now have over 60 chickens-most raised from babies-they are much-loved pets. I went to visit family for a couple of weeks, and came back yesterday. The dogs were no longer around. I was almost afraid to ask why. My DH said he didn't want to tell me because it would have ruined my trip. I felt my face go pale. Once again, the one dog had chewed a hole THROUGH THE FENCING, letting the other dog out too while DH was at work. I have several hens missing and 4 dead. The SSS came for the destructive dogs. I know, people on here will say it's their nature....well, not in all dogs, and certainly NOT around my chickens. I'm sorry, I know some people may be offended-that is not my intention. I just wanted to tell of the important lesson I learned. No matter how secure you think your dogs are from your chickens, they are NEVER as secure as you may think. Lesson learned! And my heart goes out to all of you who have had to learn the hard way like me-I'm truly sorry for your loss and know what you are going through.

So sorry for your losses, Wis...
It's very sad that we lose our birds to our or our relatives dogs, but that's what dogs do, dangit!
The best thing is to have one or the other, I vote for MORE CHICKENS!
